It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt reverence that we announce the passing of Pastor John Ekudu – Adoku, a man whose life was marked by integrity, humility, and unwavering dedication to family, faith, and community.
Pastor Ekudu was more than a name—he was a pillar of strength, a source of wisdom, and a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Throughout his life, he exemplified the virtues of hard work, resilience, and kindness. Whether in his professional endeavours, his service in ministry, or his responsibilities as a family man, he carried himself with dignity and purpose.
His life story stands as a powerful testament to determination and grace. Born and raised in humble beginnings in Kaberamaido, Pastor Ekudu’s journey to excellence was one of perseverance and vision. Through dedication to education and personal discipline, he rose to become a highly placed and respected figure in government service. His achievements inspired many, particularly young people, showing that one’s beginnings do not define one’s destiny. He served at Makerere University for most of his government career, where he rose through the ranks to Dean of Students, a position he served with excellence and integrity and retired honourably.
A devoted servant of God, Mr. Ekudu faithfully served as pastor of Entebbe Baptist Church from 1995 to 2017. During these years, he shepherded the congregation with deep conviction, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the truth of Scripture. He possessed a remarkable passion and skill for teaching the Word of God, making complex truths simple, accessible and impactful to all who listened. His sermons were not only heard but lived, as he consistently modelled the principles he taught.
Beyond the pulpit, his home became a sanctuary for many and he fathered more children than his biological children. For years, Pastor Ekudu hosted Bible studies, opening his doors and heart to those seeking spiritual growth, fellowship, and understanding. These gatherings were marked by warmth, thoughtful discussion, and a genuine hunger for God’s Word—leaving a lasting imprint on countless lives.
His leadership extended far beyond the local church. Mr. Ekudu served with distinction as the President of the Baptist Union of Uganda for many years, where he was widely respected for his wisdom, steady leadership, and commitment to unity within the body of Christ. In Baptist Church circles and across the wider community, he was regarded as a dependable and visionary leader whose counsel was deeply valued.
To his family, he was a loving and devoted figure—one who nurtured, protected, and inspired. He leaves behind cherished memories of laughter, guidance, and unconditional support. He is survived by his wife, Grace Ekudu, four children – Paul, Charity, Hope and Faith Ekudu, and four grandchildren. His impact will continue to be felt in the lives of his children, relatives, and all who were fortunate enough to call him a friend.
In the community, Mr. Ekudu will be remembered as a man of principle and quiet strength. He gave of himself generously, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer encouragement where it was needed. His legacy is one of service, unity, and compassion.
Though his earthly journey has come to an end, the values he stood for and the lives he touched remain as a testament to a life well lived—especially his faithful ministry, exemplary leadership, and enduring love for God’s Word.
As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his life—a life that has left an indelible mark on our hearts. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire generations to come.
