Luke 22:41-44

[41]And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
[42]Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
[43]And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
[44]And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Jesus was in prayer in the garden of Gethsemane. He was nearing His crucifixion and was under agony and distress. He knew that it was His Father’s will to suffer even to death. He needed the Father’s intervention during this time. So agonizing it was that He even sweated blood! As such and more is the suffering that Christ went through to secure our salvation. But He prayed to the Father in heaven to strengthen Him to endure this most agonizing time. Indeed, God sent an angel from heaven to strengthen Him.

Just like Jesus, prayer involves submitting our will to God’s will. God’s will is about God’s purposes not our purposes or desires. And the prayer is “Not my will but thine will“. It means putting our faith in the Father.

Prayer must always be said according to God’s will. It is important to know His will when you come to a time of prayer.
When we pray, we should always pray for God’s will to be done and not ours. This involves surrender of our desires in preference for God’s will. His will is all that matters and letting go is often agonizing. It may bring agony to the soul and body in the trying time of making a decision! These are some of the sufferings we may have to endure to bring God’s purposes to pass.
When we pray, supernatural help is sent from heaven.
When we pray according to God’s will, His purposes will be fulfilled.
